Radar Reflector Requirements

Radar Reflectors are measured by their Radar Cross-Section (RCS) usually represented by a Polar Diagram (as shown below).
We would recommend that a radar reflector should not be purchased unless a certified polar diagram from a government agency is provided.

As stipulated in the ISO8729 standard for Marine Radar Reflectors from the International Standards Organization (ISO), a radar reflector shall comply with the following minimum requirements for all frequencies between 9,320 and 9,500 MHz:

The maximum echoing area of the radar reflector shall be at least 10m2.
It's polar diagrams shall be such that its response over a total angle of 240o is not less than 2.5m2.
The response should not be remain below this level over any single angle of more than 10o.
These attributes should be required for angles of heel in the range of ±3o.

The performance of a radar reflector, up to at least ±15o of heel, shall be that it's response remains above 0.625m2 over a total angle of 240o..
